Using Fortis

Kill switch and startup settings

Block the internet if the VPN drops, and choose how Fortis starts and closes.

Click Settings in the menu on the left and look for BEHAVIOUR. Click a switch to turn it on. A switch is on when it is red.

  1. 1

    Turn on Kill switch

If the VPN stops unexpectedly, the kill switch blocks the internet until the VPN is back. Nothing leaves your PC unprotected in between. With it on, you have no internet while the VPN is reconnecting.

  2. 2

    Start Fortis with Windows

Launch at sign-in opens Fortis by itself every time you turn on the PC. Start minimised to tray keeps Fortis running when you close its window: the VPN stays on, and Fortis waits as a small icon next to the clock.

  3. 3

    Notifications

With Notifications on, Windows shows a small message when the VPN connects, disconnects or drops.

  4. 4

    Keyboard shortcut

Press Ctrl + Shift + C to turn the VPN on or off from anywhere, even when the Fortis window is closed. You can see it further down the Settings screen, under SHORTCUT.

Step 1 of 4

Click the picture to see it larger.

No internet after the VPN dropped? Open Fortis and connect again, or turn the kill switch off. See No internet after disconnecting from the VPN.
