1. Force-close and reopen the streaming app
Streaming apps check your location when they start. After connecting the VPN:
- Android TV / Google TV: Settings → Apps → select the app → Force stop.
- Fire TV: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → select the app → Force stop.
Then reopen the app.
2. Use WireGuard and a nearby server
4K streaming needs a fast, stable connection. Set WireGuard as your protocol and choose a server close to you, or the closest server inside the country you need.
3. Improve the TV's own connection
- Use Ethernet where possible. On Fire TV Stick, an Ethernet adapter makes a big difference.
- Move the router or device so there are fewer walls between them.
- Switch the router to the 5 GHz band if it supports it.
4. Clear the streaming app's cache
From the same app settings screen as step 1, choose Clear cache. Do not clear data unless you are happy to sign in to the app again.
5. The service says it detects a VPN or proxy
See Streaming service detects the VPN.
6. Use split tunnelling for apps that do not need the VPN
Route only the apps that need the VPN through it, and let local apps and casting use your normal connection.
