Websites can see my real address (DNS, WebRTC or IPv6 leak)
Check that websites cannot see your real address, and fix it if they can.
Last updated September 25, 2026
A "leak" means a website can see your real address even though Fortis is on. Check it with Fortis connected:
- What is my IP should show the Fortis address, not yours.
- WebRTC leak test should not show your real address.
- IPv6 leak test should not show your real address.
If a test shows your real address
- Connect again and run the test once more.
- Turn off Secure DNS in your browser. In Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Security, then turn off Use secure DNS.
- Turn off other VPN or ad-blocking apps.
- Windows: turn on the kill switch, so nothing leaves your PC if the VPN drops. See Kill switch and startup settings.
Still showing your real address? Contact us and send a screenshot of the test.
