Split tunnelling is not working as expected

An app uses the VPN when it should not, or the other way round.

Last updated September 25, 2026

Split tunnelling lets you choose which apps use the VPN. Find it in Fortis under Split tunnelling.

1. Connect again

Changes are used the next time you connect. Turn Fortis off and on again.

2. Close and reopen the app

An app that was already open keeps its old connection. Close it completely and open it again.

3. Check your choice

Make sure the app you want to protect is not left out of the VPN by mistake.

4. Check it works

Open What is my IP in an app that should use the VPN, and in one that should not. They should show different addresses.

Not sure? Turn split tunnelling off so every app uses the VPN.
